As part of the 100in1Day initiative by Make Something Edmonton, Puppet Booth was a free interactive photo booth that encouraged improvisation and expressing character through a sock puppet! A set was created out of wood, with several prompts that participants could use to bring their sock puppet characters to life. We had a camera set up and anticipated several participants that would like a photograph taken of themselves with a sock puppet, but it ended up that a lot of people enjoyed watching the puppet show and participated in that way. For us, it was an exercise in improvisation and working out our creative muscles to entertain an audience at Michael Phair Park.
I believe it is extremely important for designers to separate themselves from the computer screen. Engaging with the community allows designers to be more open minded and empathetic for the audience they are designing for!
This project was done in collaboration with Trina Bloemen.
